Hello Flock Friends,

As I write this from my studio in early September, I can see the first subtle shifts in the leaves on the roses and hornbeam tree. The garden feels quieter now, less of the hum of bees and more of the steady buzz of crickets. The swifts have already departed for warmer places, and the house martins are not far behind. These days I catch only the occasional glimpse of them, swooping and calling in small groups of six or seven instead of the dozens I saw just a few weeks ago.

The nights are beginning to draw in, but the days are still warm. I’m making the most of it, getting as much washing dry on the line as possible (a very British source of joy, I think, there’s nothing quite like laundry dried for free in the breeze!) and enjoying my morning cuppa and breakfast in the garden before heading into the studio.

Speaking of breakfast, our pears are finally ripe. There’s only a short window to enjoy them before they overripen and drop for the garden’s small creatures, so I’m making the most of them while they last.

Even as I soak up these last days of late summer, I can feel autumn calling. Alongside spring, it’s my favourite season. I love any excuse to cosy up, pull on a favourite jumper, light a candle, and stoke the little wood burner in our living room. Autumn provides the perfect invitation. In fact, it would feel rude not to!

But more than the cosiness, it’s a season full of inspiration from nature. The transformations in trees and plants, change in colours, shift in light, and the sudden appearance of small wonders, such as fungi, berries and nuts - all waiting to be noticed, sketched, and celebrated.

Join us in the Flock and stay inspired and connected all Autumn..
