Hello!
Here’s a little collection of spookily-themed books from my bookshelves, to inspire your reading this Halloween 👻
The books I share in this video are:
The Skull, by Jon Klassen
Klassen breathes new life into an old folktale with this beautiful picture book. He skillfully blends dynamic compositions, a simple colour palette, and expert use of negative space to create tension and drama. A great book to read all year round in my opinion!
Thornhill, by Pam Smy
A visually striking and beautifully designed book with a powerful story of tragedy and supernatural friendship. Half diary entries, and half wordless illustrations, this book blurs the line between teen horror fiction and graphic novel. The result is a stunning book which is hard to put down.
Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror, by Chris Priestley, illustrated by David Roberts
A collection of truly creepy stories, perfectly matched with David Roberts’s Gorey-esque illustrations. This is a great book to read by candlelight on a dark and stormy night. If you dare…
Never Say Boo to a Ghost, and Other Haunting Rhymes, compiled by John Foster, illustrated by Korky Paul.
Korky Paul has been a favourite illustrator of mine since a child, and his work inspired me to become an illustrator. This book is a compilation of funny and spooky poems by various writers, illustrated with a cast of weird and wonderful characters in Korky Paul’s trademark energetic pen and ink style.

Really enjoyed this Emma! Do you remember there was a tv adaptation of Moondial made, back in the early 90's? I remember watching it on tv and being HOOKED!
