Hello Flock Friends,
I’m excited to share this special live drawing date this month in collaboration with
from The Artist’s Toolbox. The live event is available to all subscribers, and the replay and image references to download are for Creative Flock and Artist Toolbox members. The Artist’s Toolbox is a motivational space for creatives curated by Natasha & Leah, where creative minds gather to swap tools, spark fresh ideas and cheer one another on. They welcome people from all experience levels, from absolute beginners to seasoned pros.
I had a lovely chat with Natasha when we were preparing for this session, and I loved hearing all about her travels to Bolivia and the vast, relatively unspoilt landscapes. I’m very excited to hear more about Bolivia in our session and draw from Natasha’s fantastic photos.

What to expect from the session:
This drawing session is unguided, which means we won’t be teaching you step-by-step techniques, this is a space where we draw/paint/create whilst hanging out with other creative folks and chatting (this bit is optional, you don’t even need to have your camera on if you’d prefer).
What these sessions provide are golden opportunities to take time out to draw for yourself, in the company of others and through that process, learn and develop.
Tips:
During the warm-up, we’ll be drawing for 2 minutes per image. If this feels daunting, try using a simple, agile medium such as charcoal, soft pencil or chisel tipped pen. Don’t worry about colour and detail, or about creating a perfect copy of the image. This part of the session is about warming up your hand and brain to draw and familiarising yourself with the subject.
If you’re working in colour, prepare your palette first, to save you time during the session. When Natasha paints the Bolivian landscape, she uses Phthalo Blue for the sky, Yellow Ochre for the mountains and land and Sap Green for the plants and trees. (These are acrylic colours, you can look them up to get a good match for the materials you’ll be using). There are two examples below, of the type of images we’ll draw from during the session.
You could prep your paper in advance, perhaps with some background colour or texture. Or use toned paper.
If you tend to draw slowly or prefer to focus on detail, pick out one area of the photo to draw from, rather than tackling the whole thing.
Approach the session in a way that works for you, don’t worry about making mistakes, it’s all part of the learning process. Most importantly, have fun! 😀
Timings:
To start, we will work fast with 2 min sketches, to warm up our drawing muscles. The timer will then be set to 8 minutes per two images.
We’ll finish drawing by 8.15pm BST, then there will be a chance to share your work (only if you want to, there is no pressure to share), aim to finish by 8.30pm BST.
Images:
These will be on screen during the session, and provided as references to members after the session, along with the replay.
To give you an idea of what to expect, here are two of the warm-up images we’ll be using:
