Each month in The Creative Flock i’ll announce a new ‘theme’ and the live sessions and other content will be based around this. The theme might relate to a project I’m working on or something I've been creatively inspired by and want to share. For example:
Tiny Worlds
Ghost Stories
Colour
Camouflage in Nature
I might even ask for suggestions from Creative Flock members so if there’s something you’d love to draw or an area you have been struggling with and would like to work on together, make a note and when I do a call-out you can pop your suggestion into the hat.
So, without further ado, the theme for free trial week is *drumroll*...
COLLECTIONS!
collection
noun
1.
the action or process of collecting someone or something.
"the collection of stamps"

I love collecting stuff, growing up it was Troll Dolls* and keyrings, now what I collect is less plastic-y and more nature-based, such as pebbles, shells, feathers and moss. But also pin badges, ink nibs and books!
I also used to collect novelty pencils, perhaps it was a portent for my creative career…
*Anyone else collect Trolls? My pride and joy was the Fishing Troll, wish I still had it.
Tomorrow I’ll be posting a more details of what to expect during the Free-Trial Week, but we’ll be kicking off with a ‘Collection’ themed, live drawing session at 10am on Friday 29th September. Link to join is below.
About the drawing session:
The live drawing sessions are unguided, which means I won’t be teaching you step-by-step techniques, it’s a space where we draw/paint/create whilst hanging out and chatting (this bit is optional, you don’t even need to have your camera on if you’d prefer).
What these sessions provide are golden opportunities to take time out to draw for yourself and through that process learn and develop.
There will be a chance to share at the end of the session, but only if you want to.
Bring your own collections to draw from or use some of the photos I will provide nearer the time.
The session will be recorded and available as a replay.

Chat with the Flock community!
Lastly, I’ll be starting a chat thread about collections, I would LOVE to hear about your collections, either as a kid or into adulthood. Photos too please!
Such a joyful question! As a child it was mini soaps or bath pearls (upsettingly, they all dissolved into a heaving mess but I still have one pale green flower soap the size of my thumbnail, kept in my sewing box where a variety of highly random objects are to be found). I've always been fascinated by found objects that have little value (I still own a fluro yellow plastic panda charm found at a theme park when little).
Now, it's often bits of nature (no change from the nests and shells of childhood)... my family laugh at my ever growing collection of 'lovely sticks'.
A question for those here: did you use or keep stickers?
I have so many collections! Right now my biggest ones are: old books, rocks and sea shells, vintage photos and postcards, vintage jars (really vintage anything), and ofcourse, art supplies.
